General Summary: Working under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO); the Business Development Officer (BDO) is responsible for providing consultation services to Native American small business clients on a wide range of topics including strategic planning, marketing, retailing, accounting, advertising, budgeting, business planning, loan proposals, and personnel to promote growth, expansion, innovation, increased productivity, and management improvement. Also responsible for developing and coordinating training seminars and classes designed to meet specific needs of small business owners. Primary responsibilities will be to source and develop loan clients and present to management for consideration for funding. Other responsibilities will include providing consideration for funding. Other responsibilities will include providing technical assistance to Native American Business owners and entrepreneurs and to conduct sales/marketing presentations at events.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Develop and deliver business training programs that are responsive to the needs of the business community served. Generate curricula for business programs, seminars, conferences, etc. for the local business interest. Determine topics, agendas, instructors, instructional materials, location, time and other resources required. Create and produce instructional materials. Serve as an instructor of business training programs and secure qualified outside instructors, as needed.
2.Market loan products and programs to potential borrowers and referral sources. Develop and implement marketing plans in targeted communities to achieve market penetration in accordance with lending goals. Build and maintain close working relationships with referral sources, potential partners and funding sources.
3.Provides recommendations for programs and policies of the corporation, in coordination with other staff, for the advancement of personal and business developmental programs for the client base and the growth of the corporation.
4.Engage in networking opportunities to develop and maintain a wide network of contacts with agencies, community leaders, funders and others to ensure a visible Mvskoke Loan Fund market presence.
5.Provides record keeping for all pertinent information on business development and technical assistance clients and activities of the corporation, especially relating to grant reporting requirements set forth by a variety of grantors including loan inquiries, marketing activity, and loan pipeline reports.
6.Projects - Position is tasked with coordination of Spending Frenzy-Youth Financial Literacy events with local schools. Is tasked with planning and facilitation of Marketing & Outreach Calendars, deliverables, and related reporting, with final approval by CEO.
7.Coachable Demeanor - Must maintain a teachable and coachable demeanor; able to accept constructive criticism and collaborate with other members of the Mvskoke Loan Fund staff.
8.Other Duties - As business needs and priorities change, must accept other duties or challenges assigned by CEO to meet the mission of the Mvskoke Loan Fund.
This position requires a broad base of business knowledge, excellent analytical skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously. These duties require the integration of business theory and practice, consequently necessitating professional development activities. Travel is required.
1.Provide individual instruction to entrepreneurs, business owners and business managers. Analyze situation, make recommendations and educate clients with regard to business plans, market feasibility, financial viability, operations management and legal structures, etc.
Establish technical assistance plans for new and existing borrowers.
2.Develop specific areas of expertise within the arena of business development. Apply this knowledge through new training programs, consulting tools, research projects and/or other business assistance programs.
3.Analyzes and evaluates services needed for clients and make appropriate assignments to consultants and other resources.
4.Strong focus of coordination with MLF Lending Staff and ability to provide consistent loan monitoring and assist preparing loan clients for loan underwriting and due diligence of loan packages on an as needed basis.
5.Performance Measures - The Business Development Officer's success will be determined by reaching specific measurable goals resulting in increased client development, outreach, loan volume, and other metrics.
6.Software import/export skills - Specifically, need advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and familiarity with databases and information management software. Responsible for maintenance and use of OTIS information system. Works with Finance Officer and Compliance & Lending Officer on import/export of financial information related to loan portfolio and activity.
1.Associate Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or higher and/or minimum of five years professional experience.
2.Ability to conduct due diligence, evaluate clients' needs, management skills, and experience and identify training needs.
3.Capacity to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies including existing and prospective borrowers, MLF staff, MLF Board members, community partners, and financing partners.
4.Responsive to the needs of our client. Ability to work with people from varied cultural, economic and educational backgrounds through the various curriculum and services proved by the organization, specifically rural American Indian reservation communities and tribal members.
5.Position requests someone who is creative, flexible and a team player. Applicant must be able to multi-task and must be a self-starter. Strong knowledge of Excel and Word.
6.Travel is required for this position, including frequent local travel to conduct client site visits, represent MLF at events, marketing and outreach activity, and needed training.
7.Valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
1.Experience in business coaching, business development training, and commercial lending - including loan documentation, and/or outside sales.
2.Ability to help prospective borrowers develop viable business plans, directly and through referrals to other resources. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups.
3.Bachelor Degree or higher - including courses in sales, advertising, marketing, promotional strategy, and software such as; PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Cloud, and use of websites and social media platforms.
